I am passionate about building Jewish community by allowing people to meet others with whom they can connect by age, life stage, interests, or any other defining category. Here are some examples through pictures.
Ross, our Social Justice Coordinator, and I took some of our high school students to the Texas State Capitol to learn how to lobby and advocate for their Jewish values. (April 2022) Temple Beth-El’s first Pride Parade and the only Jewish organization in the San Antonio Pride Parade. (July 2017) Leaders of all faiths, stood with our Muslim brothers and sisters who were targeted with offensive hate speech by a congressional candidate. I delivered a prayer. (March 2020) I offered a blessing for our scouts (both BSA and GSA) during Shabbat services. It allowed them to get a patch. Not all of them are Jewish or our congregants. (March 2020) Temple Beth-El brought 5 11th and 12th graders to DC for the RAC’s L’Taken. (January 2020) On Christmas day, our congregation delivers full meals to our first responders all around San Antonio. Here I delivered to Schertz EMS where my husband was working at the time. We fed the entire shift. (December 2019) Temple Beth-El received the Union for Reform Judaism’s Belin Award for Audacious Hospitality for our NEFESH program. This program was created under my supervision by our Social Justice Coordinator. This is when we received the award at the 2019 URJ Biennial. (December 2019) We had Senator Menendez come speak to our congregation about Holocaust Awareness Week in Texas, which he brought the legislation forward in our Texas government. (March 2016) Temple Beth-El’s 2nd session campers, staff, and faculty at URJ’s Greene Family Camp. (July 2017) At the Women’s Seder including the children in attendance as they helped read for part of the seder. (April 2019) We have developed incredible relationships with our law enforcement in San Antonio. Here I am with (now retired) Detective Jeremy Brosh who was the head of our security team at the Jewish community’s Tricentennial celebration for the city of San Antonio.
